Today’s post is about one of my creative family members, my cousin, Simon Johns. He is a real craftsman in a whole other world of creative expertise, working in Montreal and the surrounding area. Beginning as a general contractor with an education in the arts, he progressed into building unique custom furniture and installations from mostly salvaged materials.
As his bio on his website explains; “Simon Johns designs and builds custom furniture and is also a licenced general contractor for both construction and renovations. Materials used for furniture are almost exclusively rough sawn or antique salvaged lumber, raw salvaged or new steel, plywood and concrete.”
I have seen him in action and have had the pleasure of photographing one of his projects for a clothing company – a beautiful installation for their showroom (as seen below). He has recently built his own studio space near his home and has been tackling lots more major projects. Visit his website here for more examples of his work or to get in touch with him for your custom woodworking ideas!
